Boxer Temperament

When choosing a Boxer as a companion, its temperament is a good way to decide if this is the right dog for your household. These dogs are very good natured. However, not everyone can handle having a boxer as a pet.

On the whole Boxers are very playful, loyal and loving dogs. They interact well with adults as well as children. If exposed to other pets as a puppy, these dogs will interact well with other animals in the household.

These dogs are not an aggressive breed. Any Boxer that is aggressive or viscous has been mistreated or abused. Most Boxers are very loving even when it comes to new people. And they will bond with every member in the household and become very loyal in a short period of time.

That being said, these dogs are not for everyone. A Boxer is a very playful and energetic dog. They do not like to bored. Therefore, they will find something to do in the event that there is no one to play with. This may include using shoes and other items they find as chew toys. Boxers need plenty of stimulation and interaction or they will be very mischievous.

Boxers need to be trained well in order to become a great pet. Boxers are very intelligent dogs. This is both a positive and negative factor. They will pick up on what you are teaching them with very little repetition. However, whether they actually obey right away is an entirely different story. This breed has a tendency to be very stubborn at times. That does not mean they cannot be trained. Quite the opposite is true of these dogs. The owner must establish dominance right off the bat in order for the Boxer to train well.

Boxers are very slow to maturing. Normally, a dog will start to calm down and gain a more even temperament as it ages. This is not the case with Boxers. They take more time to mature and for their playful and boisterous temperament to even out. This breed tends to act playful for the entirety of its life span.

While the Boxer needs some outside time to run and play, they are not outside dogs. Boxers do not do well in extreme hot or cold temperatures. These conditions will cause them to develop breathing problems and advanced medical treatment. Boxers need to live inside a home in order to stay health and happy.
