How to Pick a Boxer Puppy

Purchasing any pet is a decision that cannot be taken lightly. Finding a puppy that will enrich the household can sometimes be a very long process and it may be necessary to visit several puppies before finding the right one.

The first thing for anyone that is purchasing a new puppy to remember is that you may need to visit the puppy you have chosen several times to properly access his personality. Dogs are very much like humans where it comes to personality.

When in a pack a dog may act differently than when it is on its own. This is because the pack persona can have both negative and positive effects on the puppy. The bets way to accurately access a puppy is to take the puppy to a place it has never been away from the pack. Once you have isolated the puppy you may now study its behavior and personality.

The first rule of thumb is not to pass on a puppy because it is sleeping or just wants to lay down. The puppy may not be feeling well or may be tired at the moment. On subsequent visits you may find that this puppy is very energetic and just what you are looking for. This puppy will need to be visited several times before making a decision.

Another type of puppy that will need subsequent visits is the one that wanders away and sniffs around. This puppy may be adventurous and inquisitive. However, he/she may also be uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations or environments. Take him/her to the same place on each visit and see if the behavior persists. If so, this puppy may be harder to train and need more attention.

The hyper active puppy will also need several visits. Hyper dogs are a little harder to train due to the fact that they are constantly going. Make sure this puppy will always act like this before you pass. The puppy may just be excited to see a new face.

The dominant puppy will also need some extra one on one time. Dominant dogs are never easy to train and may never obtain the level of obedience desired. However, a dominant puppy in the pack may be great all by themselves.

Always remember that the dog you choose will always act different when purchased. The puppy will be in a new environment and very scared. Patience and love will be necessary to let your new puppy know that this is a safe environment.
